Scenario

You are appointed to make ab conceptual design and implementation report on a hotel building complex near motorway that links international airport in UK, Heathrow. The site separated from motorway by large fast flowing stream that flows parallel to the motorway and ends into river Thames. The stream is 10m wide lies in midway of 1 Km land space between the chosen hotel complex site and motorway.  

The client who is private investor needs five storey hotels building to accommodate 200 guests and proposed some inter-connecting infrastructure with motorway which is required as key element of the project, the building frames generate the generates the structure for a series of high specification living hotels rooms that are intended to build in the south of England, around Heathrow Airport. The complex can be developed steel or concrete or a both. The access infrastructure and the bridge across the stream and the walkway across the motor way can be made of RC concrete or steel as your choice.

Make a conceptual report design, which consider terminology, functional requirements and design selection for different element of commercial building.

Task 1

Task 2 Substructures

• Pre-design studies can be carry further and type of information to be collated in respect to design suitable foundation type for type of structure
• Construction of types of foundations and their suitability for use in various type of structure.
• How site information effects foundation design.

Task 3 Superstructures

The report includes following elements:

• Walls
• Roofs
• Floors- ground and intermediate
• Windows and Doors
• Staircases
• Finishes

The report should consider:

• Description of functional characteristics of each of the above element and design selection criteria.
• Describe pre-design studies carried out and type of information collected for construction site.
• Show hoe components parts of elements fulfils its functions
• Compare different types of structure frame used to carry primary and secondary elements of superstructure.

Task 4 Civil Engineering infrastructure

• Describe techniques used for remediating the site prior to construction commencing.
• Explain type of substructure works required for infrastructures.
• Identify superstructure, substructure and civil engineering structure essential for given construction project.
